Home-School Applicants

Beloit understands the unique circumstances of home-schoolers during the admissions process, and we welcome applications from home-schooled students.

All home-schooled applicants must submit:

  1. A completed Common Application, Beloit Application, Universal College Application, or Coalition Application
  2. A school report
  3. A transcript that details coursework completed and level of performance
  4. At least one letter of recommendation

School report
This document is available as part of the application and should be completed by your homeschooling parent/principal.

If you are an applicant completing your high school education under the umbrella of a diploma-granting institution, you will need to submit a transcript from that institution.

If you are an applicant applying from a secondary school that does not provide grades, you must submit results from one or more standardized tests, such as SAT, ACT, AP or IB examination results, or grades from college courses.

For all homeschooling applicants, we essentially need a detailed transcript that demonstrates the work you have completed and your level of performance.
This transcript could include any of the items below that may apply to you:

  • grades from community college or other post-secondary level courses
  • scores from AP tests
  • GED results
  • examples of independent research
  • evidence of completed units in science, English, or other concrete academic subjects

Letters of recommendation
All applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation (from someone other than a relative). A qualified writer might be a tutor, teacher, coach, clergy member, or scout troop leader; the most important thing is that this person can evaluate you not only as a student, but also an an individual and member of the community. Letters should describe specific activities in which you participated together and evaluate your performance through the eyes of experience and objective judgment. We are especially interested in evidence of your potential success in a rigorous academic setting.
