At Beloit, the world opened itself to me…
You can choose from three different programs within the Department of Dance and Theatre: Dance, Theatre Performance, and Theatre Production. All three areas offer both majors and minors. And even after you’ve settled on one, rest assured that you can still take classes, work on projects, and work a shop in all the other areas. College is about discovery and our department takes that seriously.
THEATRE PERFORMANCE
Students perform in faculty directed shows on two stages — the 130 seat black box Kresge Theatre and the 292 seat thrust in the Neese Theatre.
THEATRE PRODUCTION
Students working in the scene shop and costume shops build all the sets and costumes. You’ll learn everything from painting to welding; tailoring to rigging a spurting blood pack.
Chelonia Dance Company, our resident dance group, performs each spring in the Laura Aldrich Neese Theatre. The all-student company is directed by Professor Chris Johnson and includes work from faculty, guest artists and students.
Dance at Beloit provides opportunities for students to perform whenever possible. Have a creative idea for a special performance? We encourage you to pursue your vision. Want to work with a professional dancer? Every year, we bring guest artists to campus to collaborate with students and sometimes our students will work with other artists off campus. Dream it and do it — that’s what we believe at Beloit.
