Make MLK Day a day of service

Set aside Jan. 16 to continue the work of Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering in the community.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 16, 2023. Please celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a National Day of Service to strengthening our communities and bringing unity.

As part of the Beloit celebration, we ask you to participate in a day of service wherever you are. If possible, take pictures or video, where appropriate, and share them with the SSEC office. We would love to share them with our campus community as well as post or run videos in Grace’s place during Black History Month in February.

Some suggestions:

  • Participate with your community’s call to action
  • Volunteer with Meals on Wheels or senior services
  • Clean up public spaces or mentor a young person

If you are not sure of what’s available in your area, search https://americorps.gov/join/find-volunteer-opportunity#/. If you would like to participate or have any questions, contact Gloria Bradley in the SSEC office at bradleyg@beloit.edu.
