Your scholarly accomplishments prompted your election in 1961 as president of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Educator – Author

Successful teacher; noted author, lecturer, editor and reviewer; specialist in philology and medieval Spanish literature; professor and chairman of the Graduate Program Committee in Modern Languages at Florida State University – your outstanding career represents high achievement and wide recognition and reflects honor upon your Alma Mater. Before graduating from Beloit High School, you expressed an ambition to make “use of modern languages” your occupation, and today your record indicates how well you have measured up to this goal. You have retained ties to Wisconsin as a research associate in the Seminary of Medieval Spanish Studies at the state university, where you received masters and doctorate degrees and where you first taught. Your scholarly accomplishments prompted your election in 1961 as president of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, selection for key offices by numerous professional organizations and listing in several “Who’s Who” volumes. In recognition of your exemplary service to higher education, Beloit proudly awards you this Distinguished Service Citation to you.
