1976 Distinguished Service Citation

Your name has become synonymous with English education in southwest Wisconsin as you have modestly demonstrated that “Teaching is Learning.” Associate professor and supervisor of secondary student teachers and interns at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville since 1964, you have drawn upon classroom and administrative experience to earn the reputation of being an inspiring educator with a genuine concern for people. You have effectively fulfilled many key responsibilities – serving as curriculum and workshop consultant, North Central evaluator, co-author of junior high school anthologies in the America Reads series, commencement speaker and professional conference participant. Your honors include three Freedom Foundation Awards for creative dramatics, listing in state and national leadership journals and selection by the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English as the 1975 Chisholm Award recipient for meritorious professional service. Beloit College takes great pleasure in acknowledging your deep commitment to all levels of education and your fidelity to its high academic goals by awarding you this Distinguished Service Citation.
