Charles R. Goulet’51 DSC

Active in both professional and civic affairs, you are past president of the Chicago Hospital Council and former treasurer of the Illinois Hospital Association.

1976 Distinguished Service Citation

The foundations of your brilliant career in health-care administration were laid during army medical corps service, undergraduate days here at Beloit, and specialized training at Chicago, where you received an MBA with honors. After gaining hospital-work experience, you taught at Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health and later were associate director of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. From 1962 to 1969, you headed the University of Chicago’s 12-hospital complex and were associate director and professor of hospital administration. You then spent two years with an international management firm as consultant to medical and health agencies. In 1971, you were named vice president of health services development for the Hospital Service Corporation (Blue Cross) and the Illinois Medical Service (Blue Shield) — and last year became executive vice president of the combined corporation. Active in both professional and civic affairs, you are past president of the Chicago Hospital Council and former treasurer of the Illinois Hospital Association. It is with great pleasure that your alma mater awards you this Citation on the occasion of your 25th Class Reunion.
