2022 Distinguished Service Citation

Stacie Rosenzweig may not have come to Beloit College with a plan to become a lawyer, practicing in niche areas like professional responsibility and election law, but she showed early and consistent signs of being a high achiever and a strong writer.

As a student, she double majored in literary studies and creative writing, edited the campus newspaper, the Round Table, was elected to Mortar Board, and received numerous academic honors, including the VonEschen-Steele Education & Teaching Award, the David & Marion Stocking Prize, and the White-Howells English Prize.

Stacie taught high school English and edited for a trade magazine before entering into Marquette University Law School in 2006. She received her J.D. in 2009, graduating summa cum laude and second in her class with pro bono honors.

Now a shareholder at Halling & Cayo S.C., she has been recognized as a state and national leader in the legal ethics field, and as a steadfast defender of democracy and voting rights. Still, building on her writing and teaching roots, she writes her own blog and frequently teaches continuing legal education courses to other lawyers. She also has been teaching jurisprudence as an adjunct assistant professor at the Marquette University School of Dentistry.

Outside of work, Stacie serves on the board of directors of Ex Fabula, a storytelling collective centered in Milwaukee that hosts StorySlams, workshops, and nonprofit partnerships, and is serving a two-year term on the board of the national Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers.

“I’m full of admiration of her growth and development,” says family friend and fellow lawyer and Beloiter Arthur Thexton’72. “I admire her resilience, professionalism, friendly personality, and legal acumen.”

The Beloit College Alumni Association graciously recognizes Stacie Rosenzweig with the 2022 Distinguished Service Citation.
