Wednesday 7 p.m. Moore Lounge Pearsons Hall |
Beloit College will host an open forum for candidates running for the City of Beloit’s city council and school board. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 7 p.m., in the Moore Lounge, in Pearsons Hall, on the Beloit College campus. The forum is being coordinated by the college’s League of Independent Voters and Office of Student Activities. It is free and open to the public.
Beloit College sophomore Alex Catalan is helping to coordinate the event. He says that the forum will offer candidates an important opportunity to discuss city governance and outline their positions. It also enables them to reach a small but significant constituency.
“Students feel at home here in Beloit and many participate in local elections,” he explains. “Bringing candidates to campus not only give students a chance to learn about local issues, but also gives the public a chance to visit the college and discuss topics about the city. We all want to participate in the political process.”
As of Monday, March 24, the following candidates for city council had confirmed their participation in the forum: Sheila DeForest-Davis, Gregg Hatley, Charles Haynes, Eric Newnham, Adam Rankins, and James Van De Bogart. Therus “T.C.” Collins, Michael Ramsdail, and Kimberly Thompson, candidates for the school board positions, will also attend.
Local elections for the city council and school board are scheduled for Tuesday, April 1.For details about the forum, contact Catalan at catalana@stu.beloit.edu. Information about this and other events at Beloit College can be found online at www.beloit.edu.
