Music from three Beloit College music ensembles will be spotlighted in a concert on Thursday, April 24, at 8 p.m., in Eaton Chapel, on the Beloit College campus. The Beloit College Concert Band, the College Street Singers and the Jazz Band will be led by Beloit College music faculty John Meyers, Susan Rice, Rob Tomaro and Glenn Wilfong. The performance is open to the public. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.

The first of the three groups to perform will be the Beloit College Concert Band, which is composed of student and community member musicians ranging in age from 15 to 87. Under the direction of Glenn Wilfong, the ensemble will perform favorites from the wind band repertoire, including “Declaration Overture” by Giannini, “Carnival” by Basler and “Foundation” by Camphouse.

The College Street Singers, a nine-voice student vocal jazz ensemble under the direction of Susan Rice, will follow. The singers will present arrangements made famous in recordings by professional vocal jazz ensembles such as The Real Group, the Hi-Los, The King’s Singers, New York Voices and The Manhattan Transfer. Featured songs will include “You Are the New Day,” “I’ll be Seeing You” and “Java Jive.”

Closing the concert will be the Beloit College Jazz Band, co-directed by John Meyers and Rob Tomaro. The band will perform popular Big Band hits, including “In the Mood,” “Birdland,” and “Too Close for Comfort,” featuring vocalist and Beloit College sophomore Abbey VanderBent (Minneapolis, Minn).
