BELOIT COMPOSER AND COMMUNITY FEATURED ON YOUTUBE

A music video promoting the candidacy of Senator Barack Obama titled "It's Our Time Now" features the music and lyrics of Beloit College Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music and Conductor of the Beloit Janesville Symphony Rob Tomaro, along with performances by the people of Beloit. It was released this weekend on You Tube. The two-and-a-half minute video was created by Hollywood director Jim Hayman, and filmed over the course of five days in early March in Beloit. Filmed over the course of five days in early March in Beloit, it captures citizens from all walks of life in the Southern Wisconsin city, singing the song.  The film includes local officials, Beloit College students, retail store employees, and families singing along with Milwaukee pop singer Nicole Waters, a member of the band The Orphans.

The music was premiered at a "Stand for Change" rally for Barrack Obama at Beloit College in February.  Tomaro, who teaches conducting and composition at Beloit College along with his professional conducting, composed the piece originally as part of a score for a film about a Minnestota athletic team preparing for a national competition.  When he realized that the words he had just written were part of the Obama promotional effort, he spent a weekend recording musical tracks and then presented it to the rally organizers.  The work was performed by Waters before 3,000 people in the Beloit College Sports Center just before the candidate addressed the crowd.

“We are very pleased with the way this turned out," Tomaro said.  "The words and music offer an uplifting and energizing theme at a time when most people in this country are expressing concerns about our future direction.  The video shows the exciting diverse community of Beloit filled with hope and high expectation. I am very proud of what we have collectively done here and the positive response from viewers on Youtube is very gratifying."
