2nd Annual ***** This dance concert is free and open to the public. |
A dance performance titled “Jaywalking” will take place on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19, at 8 p.m., in the Wilson Theater, in Mayer Hall, on the Beloit College campus. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Like most events on the Beloit College campus, the dance performance is free and open to the public.
“Jaywalking” is produced by Beloit College students as part of the second annual Alas Dance Show. Established as a performance outlet to demonstrate the various forms of dance on campus, the show integrates different styles of dancing under a common theme. The title of the show, Alas, reflects on emotions many dancers feel after completing a show: sad that it is over, but thrilled to have performed and driven to become better dancers. Participating student performers and choreographers encompass a wide range of dance experiences, class years and majors.
“Jaywalking” emphasizes the diversity of dance styles. This year's show has an urban feel, as it explores the many ways people interact with each other. The theatrical set is a “city” in which people from different backgrounds come together. The many different forms of dance performed emphasize the contrast of the individual self with the image of self presented to the public.
