LEARNING ASSISTANT - Disability Awareness
A team of paraprofessionals/office assistants help staff the Beloit College Learning Support Services Center (LSSC). This position will report to the Director of the LSSC.
General Duties:
- Create and implement activities for Disability Awareness Month (October).
- Coordinate assistive technology efforts including scanning and recording books onto tape.
- Inform the campus about disability awareness opportunities utilizing a variety of approaches (e.g. creating flyers, emails, personal contact).
- Investigate campus accessibility.
- Answer phones and handle walk-ins as needed (particularly during high traffic times such as when time-sheets are due).
- Provide office support such as copying, errands, poster distribution, picking up mail, etc.
- Check LSSC email, and personal mail box and folder for daily inter-office communications.
- Ask LSSC professional staff member if there are items in which they need support if not currently assigned a project.
- Attend monthly LSSC staff meetings.
- Attend training sessions.
- Keep records and appropriate paperwork as assigned.
- Special projects as assigned (compiling data, poster design, etc.)
Terms of Employment:
- Six to eight hours per week, excluding midterm breaks and finals weeks.
- Flexible hours Monday through Friday, some occasional evenings.
- Paid training.

- Interest in working with adaptive technology (programs specific to auditory output, voice recognition, and enlargement)

LEARNING ASSISTANT – Programming & Logistics
The Beloit College Learning Support Services Center (LSSC) is staffed by a team of paraprofessionals under the supervision of the LSSC Director and the Assistant Director.
General Duties:
- Develop new ideas, projects, and events for the LSSC including, but not limited to:
- Fall & Spring Fling,
- Disability Awareness, and
- Tutor Appreciation
- For LSSC events, the individual will be responsible for:
- Logistics (equipment, supplies, reserving space, etc.),
- Communicating with the Publicity Learning Assistant about events,
- Informing LSSC staff of progress of activity planning, and
- Obtaining/training volunteers as necessary.
- Compile data from surveys, forms, and evaluations as assigned
- Solicit and coordinate logistics for LSSC presentations.
- Present to groups on academic enrichment topics such as time management, study skills, note-taking, and stress reduction.
- Attend bi-weekly LSSC staff and training meetings.
- Communicate with students, faculty and staff primarily using email.
- Keep records and appropriate paperwork as assigned.
- Provide general office assistance.
- Work on other projects as directed by the LSSC professional staff.

LEARNING ASSISTANT – Publicity
The Beloit College Learning Support Services Center (LSSC) is staffed by a team of paraprofessionals under the supervision of the LSSC Director and the Assistant Director.
General Duties:
- Develop and produce all publicity for LSSC activities.
- Develop new ideas, projects, and services to enhance the academic enrichment of students.
- Keep records and appropriate paperwork as assigned.
- Provide general office assistance.
- Work on other projects as directed by the LSSC professional staff.
- Attend bi-weekly LSSC staff and training meetings.
- Present to groups on academic enrichment topics such as time management, study skills, note-taking, and stress reduction.

LEARNING ASSISTANT – Tutor Matching
The Beloit College Learning Support Services Center (LSSC) is staffed by a team of paraprofessionals under the supervision of the LSSC Director and Assistant Director.
General Duties:
- Assign students who have requested tutoring to appropriate tutors.
- Recruit tutors utilizing a variety of approaches (e.g. emails, personal contact).
- Process/request professor recommendations for tutors.
- Communicate with students, faculty and staff primarily using email.
- Keep records and appropriate paperwork as assigned.
- Provide office assistance.
- Serve as a liaison to faculty, both generally and in assigned Division(s).
- Develop new ideas, projects, and services for general use and in Division(s).
- Attend bi-weekly LSSC staff and training meetings.
- Present to groups on academic enrichment topics such as time management, study skills, note-taking, and stress reduction.
- Work on other projects as directed by the LSSC professional staff.

General Duties:
- Training:
- Lead training sessions for tutors,
- Procure and organize assistive materials for tutors, and
- Review, revise, and develop training for tutors (with the Asst. Director).
- Observation:
- Observe tutors during the tutoring process,
- Compile and report observations, and
- Provide constructive feedback to tutors and tutees.
- Keep records and appropriate paperwork as assigned.
- Provide general office assistance.
- Attend bi-weekly LSSC staff and training meetings.
- Recruit students to serve as tutors.
- Work on other projects as directed by the LSSC professional staff.
- Present to groups on academic enrichment topics such as time management, study skills, note-taking, and stress reduction.
