An Interdisciplinary Approach
The scientific community is making great headway in its examination of human genetics. However, the wider social community is not prepared to deal with the social, legal, cultural and ethical implications of this new paradigm. We believe that it is unacceptable for groups to continue working in isolation. Our site is an attempt to build an interdisciplinary bridge that connects the scientific community to the rest of the world, with the intent of opening discussion across the disciplines. The thoughts and ideas structuring this resource has been compiled with our experience and knowledge from many disciplines; primarily from that of Biology, Public Health, Sociology, and Anthropology. We need t o force ourselves to reexamine the categories and the questions we are asking rather t han just the biological material. This exploration can aid us in our conversations abo ut ethical issues. We may not agree with some of the opinions that are expressed on th is page but feel that it is necessary to understand them to gain a fuller picture. The goal of this site is to allow multiple views to emerge, to be recognized, and to be v alued!
