While our science faculty members focus on their majors, they also seek to inspire non-science majors to a high degree of scientific understanding. Such breadth is, after all, the hallmark of an excellent liberal arts college.
Beloit College is a national leader in reinventing science education. A big part of that reinvention involves enabling enabling an experience-based approach, "learning science by doing science as scientists do it." Beloit faculty have been leaders in the following initiatives:
- BioQUEST, an international consortium of biology curriculum developers based at Beloit
- ChemLinks, a Beloit-based consortium of leading liberal arts colleges to develop course materials that support scientific literacy in chemistry
- Keck Consortium of leading liberal arts colleges in the field of geology, providing opportunities for collaborative student-faculty research
