Open to all Beloit College students. This year's juror, Leslie Smith III, decided what made it into the show and awarded five prizes: Juror's Choice, First Place, and three honorable mentions.

Leslie Smith III: Biographical Statement, Fall 2013

A Native of the Washington DC metropolitan area Leslie Smith III is an oil-based painter. His studio practice is centered on employing abstraction to communicate the poetics and nuance of the human experience. Smith received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Maryland Institute College of Art and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University School of Art. Smith’s narrative paintings and works on paper have shown most recently at Beta Pictoris: Maus Contemporary gallery, Texas Contemporary Art Fair, Dean Jensen Gallery and Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. He has previously exhibited in New York City, Philadelphia, Minneapolis St. Paul, and San Francisco. Currently Smith is a professor of painting and drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
