Staying Healthy during the Flu Season

With the rise in the number of people affected with  influenza across the nation we would like to share the following information with you.

  • Remember to wash your hands frequently.
  • Don't touch your face.
  • Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue. Be sure to discard the tissue into the trash.
  • Don't share drinking glasses or cups.
  • Wipe off common surfaces.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Eat healthy.

It is not too late to get the seasonal influenza vaccine. The campus health center has a limited supply of the vaccine. The cost of the vaccine is 25 dollars charged to your insurance. Please call us at 608-363-2331 to schedule an appointment. The Rock County Health Department also has a limited supply of the vaccine. The cost is the same and you need to call to set up an appointment. Their phone number is 608-364-2010

Symptoms of the flu include:

  • Sudden onset of symptoms
  • Fever of over 100 degrees
  • Body aches
  • Tired
  • Cough
  • Possibly a sore throat or runny nose

Some people also experience nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

You should contact your medical provider if your symptoms become severe, you have a fever over 100 degrees,  or you are worried.

Self care should include an over the counter fever reducer such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen, drink plenty of juice, water, tea and soup. Get plenty of rest.

You should not return to class, sports or work until you no longer have a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

The campus health center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - Noon and 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM. Please call the health center to schedule an appointment or to talk  our staff at 608-363-2331.
