Nygren Wetland Preserve: Restoration Management

The Nygren Wetland Fellow will work with the staff of the Natural Land Institute (NLI) on the restoration of native species at Nygren Wetland Preserve.  Kevin Rohling, Director of Stewardship at NLI, will supervise this fellowship. This year, the Fellow can expect to continue the successful restoration of the wetland, prairie, and oak savannah complex at Nygren Wetland Preserve.  Potential projects, depending on interests and skills, could include identifying and collecting native seeds, controlling invasive plant species, working with GIS/GPS to document locations of invasive species and sources of native seed, participating in aquatic turtle monitoring, and working with volunteers in restoration activities. The 2014 Nygren fellow will continue the work of  India John (2010), Brianna Berkowitz (2011), Kyle Bohrer (2012), and Becky Clow (2013) who worked on turtle restoration, conservation planning, invasive species management, and stream monitoring of macroinvertebrates at Nygren and other NLI preserves.
