SLP Director and Staff

SLP Director Bill Conover (jump to student workers here

meet bill 2 Bill has been the director of the program since it was launched in August, 2004. Formerly an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ, and now a student of Shambhala (a secular expression of Tibetan Buddhism), Bill is at home serving and supporting students of diverse faiths and perspectives.

Bio
Bill grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts, but he's been a happily transplanted Midwesterner since 1994, ever since his wife Deb's career in sustainable agriculture took him to Kansas for a year. Deb currently works as Program Director at the Angelic Organics Learning Center, not far from campus. Bill is also father to Emma (16) and Nellie (11).

Academically, Bill received an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies (Chinese history and language) from Princeton University in 1989, followed in 1993 by an M.Div from Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York.  Before coming to Beloit College, Bill served churches in Solomon, KS and Madison, WI, and worked for two years in a campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  His loves include walking, sitting meditation, hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Boston Red Sox, CUWRA (coming up with random acronyms), and his fluffy white dog, Jack.

Bill's office is on the second floor of 726 Church Street, the same building which houses the office of Human Resources and the Campus Outreach Center. It is the brown house behind the library, situated between the Womyn's Center and Spanish House.
