[Mackey Chair]Raymond Carver (1938-1988) was one of the most influential American writers of short fiction since 1975. Carver brought a new realism to the American short story. Some of his stories, such as Cathedral (nominated for a 1984 Pulitzer Prize) and A Small, Good Thing (1983) are now established classics.
