DEDICATION OF THE CENTER FOR THE SCIENCES
Interim President Dick Niemiec'65 and Board of Trustees Chair Jim Sanger will host a dedication ceremony for the new Center for the Sciences on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:30 p.m., in the atrium of the Center for the Sciences.

LIBRARY LECTURE SERIES
Nicolette Meister and Bill Green, of the Logan Museum of Anthropology, will host a lecture titled "Digitizing the Logan Museum's Collections" on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m., in the north lounge, on the lower level of the library.

THE FOREVER WALTZ SHOWING
The Forever Waltz, a Beloit College Theatre production, will be performed Oct. 9-11, at 8 p.m., in the Kresge Theatre, in the Neese Performing Arts Complex. Admission is $8.50 ($5-senior citizens, $4-students). Order tickets from the Beloit College box office at 608-363-2755. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

nCREATIVE NON-FICTION READING
Students in 2008 Mackey Professor Scott Russell Sanders' creative nonfiction workshop will read from their creative non-fiction works on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m., in Galley ABBA, at 437 E. Grand.

UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW INFORMATION
Colette McGowan, a representative from the University of Glasgow, will discuss study and research opportunities at the university on Friday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., in D.K.'s dining room, in Pearsons Hall.

nPOLITICAL ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION
Students for Barack Obama will host a women's roundtable discussion, featuring prominent female supporters of Barack Obama, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:15 p.m., in the Moore Lounge, in Pearsons Hall. Speakers will include:

Susan Davis Democratic representative of California
Betty McCollum Democratic representative of Minnesota

WILL ROGERS NOW!
Dramatist Lance Brown will deliver a performance of his one-man show, a tribute to Will Rogers, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., in the Wilson Theatre, in Mayer Hall. Tickets are $50 for preferred seats, or $25 for general seating, and all proceeds benefit the Stateline Community Foundation. For tickets, call the foundation at 608-362-4228.

BELOIT JANESVILLE SYMPHONY CONCERT
The Beloit Janesville Symphony will perform on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m., in Eaton Chapel. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling the BJS at 608-362-4228.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION LECTURE
Daniel Sabbagh, a senior research fellow at the School of Political Science in Paris, will present "A Comparative Perspective of Affirmative Action Policies" on Monday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m., in Richardson Auditorium, in Morse-Ingersoll Hall.

nTRIO DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE
The TRIO department, which is focused on educational opportunity programs for first-generation, low income students, will host an open house on Monday, Oct. 20, from 4-6 p.m., on the first and second floors of South College.

STUDENT RECITAL
A midterm student recital, featuring performances by student soloists, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in Eaton Chapel.

ARTS AND CULTURE PRESENTATION
Author, poet, and filmmaker Kip Fulbeck will present a lecture titled "What Are You?: The Changing Face of America" on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., in the Wilson Theatre, in Mayer Hall.

TRAVEL SERIES ERRANDS
Student Activities Travel Series will host an errands run on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7-11 p.m. Vans will leave from in front of the C-Haus at 7 and 9 p.m., and a valid Beloit College ID is required.

CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT
The music department will host a performance by the St. Petersburg String Quartet on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m., in Eaton Chapel.

nCHERRYHOLMES IN CONCERT
Award-winning family bluegrass band Cherryholmes will perform on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m., in Eaton Chapel. Tickets are $15 ($12-senior citizens, $5-students) and can be purchased by calling the Beloit College box office at 608-363-2755.

nWHAT MATTERS TO ME AND WHY
David Heesen, editorial assistant with academic affairs publications, will present an informal lecture and talkback session on Friday, Oct. 24, from 12:30-1:20 p.m., in the Mathers Room, in Pearsons Hall.

nALUMNA TO ADDRESS CURRENT STUDENTS
Alumnus Chia Hung'91 will discuss his life after Beloit College and how he earned a Ph.D. degree in immunology on Friday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., in room 301 of the Center for the Sciences.

nFILM SERIES EVENT
The documentary Jesus Camp (2007) will be shown on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m., in the Wilson Theatre, in Mayer Hall.

nTRAVEL SERIES DINNER & ERRANDS
The Student Activities Travel Series will host an errands evening on Sunday, Oct. 26, during which students can receive rides to restaurants and shopping locales in Beloit. Vans leave from in front of the C-Haus at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. A current Beloit College student ID is required.

nISR BROWN BAG SERIES
Information Services and Resources will host a lunch-hour presentation titled "Leave Your Mark and Bring Order to the Web: Tagging, Tag Clouds, and Folksonomies" on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at noon, in the Weeks Lounge, in Pearsons Hall.

nMILLER UPTON FORUM
Titled "The Wealth and Well-Being of Nations," the 2008 Miller Upton Forum will be hosted by Nobel Prize-winning economist Douglass North from Wednesday, Oct. 29-Saturday, Nov. 1. For information on specific events, visit www.beloit.edu/upton/.

nMORAL VALUES LECTURE
Professor Debra Majeed (religious studies) will present a lecture titled "Marriage, F-Buddies, Shackin', or Just Hangin' Solo: What's Morality Got to Do with Our Partnering Choices?" on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., in Richardson Auditorium, in Morse-Ingersoll Hall.

nGHOST WALK
A guided tour of campus that includes ghost stories will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. The walk starts on the academic side of campus at Pearsons Hall.

nMILLER UPTON FORUM KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Nobel laureate Douglass North will present the keynote address for "The Wealth and Well-Being of Nations" on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m., in the atrium of the Center for the Sciences.

Wright Museum of Art

The Fabric and Characters of Beloit College - Featuring antique clothing and costumes from the Beloit College costume collection. Curated by Morgan Maul-Smith’09. On display in the north gallery through Dec. 7.

Palates and Palettes - An homage to food by Wisconsin artists Joe De Maio (photography) and Ralph M. Selensky (painting). On display in the Neese Gallery through Dec. 5.

Women and Shakespeare - Examines how stage and film presentations of the Bard’s female characters have evolved. Curated by Elise Freed-Brown'08 and Naomi Salmon'10. On display in the south gallery through Nov. 14.

nTRUSTEES TO VISIT
The Beloit College trustees will visit campus on Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11. Participating trustees will be on hand for the dedication of the new Center for the Sciences, to which the entire campus community is invited.

nWEISSBERG LECTURE IN HUMAN RIGHTS NOW ONLINE
Roy Gutman, one of the leading investigative reporters in the world today, says that the 2001 terrorist strikes on the United States signaled failed U.S. foreign policies that predate the attacks by more than a decade. Gutman discussed this view in a presentation titled “Afghanistan: How the Government and the Media Got the Story Wrong” that he delivered at Beloit College on Oct. 6.

nBUCS SECOND STRAIGHT WIN
The Beloit College football team built a two-touchdown lead after three quarters and then the defense took over to stop a late Lake Forest drive as Beloit won its second straight game with a 27-21 win at Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon. Read the full story.
