“NGO Database Project: Dongjen Center for Human Rights Education and Action”

Location: Beijing, China, and USA

Mark traveled to Beijing to visit the Dongjen Center, which works to promote awareness and support for people living with HIV in China, and to meet with leading NGOs in the field of advocacy.  Following his visit, Mark worked to compile a list of potential partner non-profit organizations in the US who can serve as resources for the Dongjen Center.  He found that, because the Chinese government does not officially recognize human rights organizations and exempt them from taxes, many have to do their work as information resources.  Mark said, “Through my project I have gained appreciation for the power of information sharing and ability for information resources to be democratized.”
