“Human Rights and NGO Education Library Project: Dongjen Center for Human Rights Education and Action”

Location: USA, China

Lauren spent the summer setting up a strategy for collecting and sending donated books to supply the library of the Dongjen Center in Beijing.  Starting from scratch, she identified book titles, contacted donors in the academic community, and laid the groundwork for fundraising to send the books overseas.  Though the work will continue, Lauren made positive strides.  Having studied abroad in China, Lauren used her Chinese language skills to navigate the cultural and linguistic barrier.  She wrote, “This project really challenged my creativity and critical thinking skills.  Not only did I have to come up with ways to get books and funds, but I also had to strategize and analyze what was effective and what was not.”[Lauren Jones Photo]
