"Challenges Faced by Slum Children when Seeking Enrollment in Government Schools"
Location: New Delhi and Mumbai, India
Karla spent her grant in Mumbai and Delhi, India observing how the role of NGOs is pertinent in filling the gaps in the Indian education system to provide students with the help they need to realize their potential. In addition, she made observations about how NGOs could work together to advance the education of underprivileged children. She also gave recommendations on how to set up one of the NGOs in the U.S. and what projects would be financially viable, and developed a blue-print for future for-fee internships. Karla presented her research and findings at the Student Symposium in the spring of 2011.
