"Indexing Identity through the Marketing of Slow Food"
Location: Northern Italy
Elizabeth (pictured below, left) travelled to northern Italy to conduct research on the language used by the Slow Food movement. This first-hand study was designed to complement her senior thesis on the Italian perspective on the global phenomenon. She conducted formal interviews at markets and universities in Milan and Bologne, and informal interviews with market vendors, visitors, restaurant workers, and museum curators around the ideology promoted by the slow food movement. She also used participant observation to collect information at meals and events, recording her experiences in a journal. Elizabeth presented her findings at the 2011 Student Symposium.[Elizabeth Makarewicz in Italy]
