Critical Identity Studies

The associations Indians make with "male" and "female" differ quite wildly from those of Westerners in ways I had not previously considered.  Dance, for example, is not primarily a female thing.  In India to be able to dance can be considered a very macho thing, a concept that can be confusing at first.  Every time I think I understand just how flexible the categories of gender can be in comparison between societies, something else shows up and I am yet again surprised.
