Kansai Gaidai University, Hirakata
Students enroll in the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University, which facilitates learning the culture and language of Japan through classroom instruction and opportunities to interact with Japanese people and explore Japan.
- Fall, spring or academic year
- Curriculum:
- Language courses in spoken Japanese and Japanese reading and writing
- Courses on Japan and Asia taught in English
- Studio art class in ceramics and sumi-e (brush painting)
- Lecture courses are .75 Beloit units, language courses are worth more. Students enroll in 4 or 5 courses (3.5 to 4.25 Beloit units)
- Housing is with a host family (encouraged) or in a Seminar House or apartment with other international students.
- Costs: Beloit College tuition, room and board, the Beloit activities fee and a $50 overseas administrative fee. Students choosing the Seminar House alternative are given a stipend with which to provide their own meals.
- Eligibility:
- 3.0 gpa and at least a B average in Japanese
- Beloit College requires two years of Japanese language for the program
- Previous coursework focused on Asian art, economics, history, politics or other related area studies
- Program highlights: Learn Japanese and Asian perspectives, immersion in Japanese culture, opportunity to live with a host family, Speaking Partner Program to develop language proficiency and promote cultural exchange, Home Visit Program, student clubs and circles, orientation program and activities.
