Students who have engaged in academic work in a country other than their country of origin are eligible to present in the International Symposium. The Symposium is open to both U. S. students who have studied abroad and to international students studying here. Students must be nominated by a faculty sponsor willing to work with the student on their presentation and abstract.
This symposium aims to emphasize the role of international academic experiences in student learning. While some students focus on the intercultural aspects of their learning, others present research conducted abroad. Some students might individually share their participation in a particular political, economic, or social event, or join together with others in a panel discussion.

Faculty: Please nominate students you judge eligible for participation by sending names to firstname.lastname@example.org. Doreen Dalman (Science Center) will send an invitation and instructions to students nominated for the symposium. Students can be nominated by multiple faculty members.
Submitting an abstract is the student’s obligation, although the abstract must be approved by a faculty sponsor, who may be different from the person(s) nominating the student. Sponsors are asked to work with students as they prepare their abstracts and to help them decide whether a 20-minute presentation or a poster will be the most suitable format.
Abstracts should be substantive, explicit as to the content of the presentation, and no longer than 300 words. If a study abroad/research site is discussed, this should be mentioned in the abstract. Upon submission of the abstract, a copy will be emailed to the sponsor for approval. Abstracts will be printed in the symposium program, which is widely disseminated. Symposium titles will also appear on the student’s transcript. Faculty sponsors' mentorship is assumed, valued, and publicly acknowledged.
Students who submit abstracts will be notified of the time and location of their presentation. Presenters are allowed twenty (20) minutes, followed by five (5) minutes for questions and discussion. If an alternate format is appropriate, the student or sponsor should notify George Lisensky who will try to accommodate the request.
As an alternative to 20 minute presentations, students may also present posters. They may choose this option when submitting the abstract.
