Weissberg Lecture: "Current Challenges to Democracy and Human Rights in Latin America"
Keynote lecture by Diego Garcia-Sayan, Weissberg Chair 2012-13. A highly regarded justice specializing in human rights, Diego García-Sayán has served as a Justice on the Inter-American Court of Human Rights since 2004. In 2008 he was elected Vice President of the Court, and became its President in 2010. A former Minister of Justice and Minister of Foreign Affairs for Peru, Justice García-Sayán is also past Chair of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances. He holds a law degree from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and studied political science at the University of Texas at Austin for one year.
