SUMMARY:On Location: International Mapping Charette
DESCRIPTION:Charette: a kind of collaborative session in which a group solves a problem
or completes a task within a limited time. Traditionally these have had cl
ose ties to fields like architecture and graphic design. Our version is bot
h a sort of performance piece and a workshop session that will result in an
exhibit. Anybody can watch you work—or just come look at your work. Map:
a visual representation of a place. Location: at least three of them! The
place you were in your international study. The place we’ll gather for th
is on-campus happening The “place of paper” on which—the frame within
which--you’ll create a visual representation of your experience on locat
ion. Maybe you want to do a cognitive or conceptual map of your sense of a
place you were. Or you could assemble some artifacts (such as photos or doc
uments) in a graphic design. Or you could find some other way to visually r
ender your experience as a “citizen of elsewhere.” We’ll provide post
er paper, drawing materials, rulers, glue, and a few other items. You provi
de the experience. 60-minutes for the charette, then we’ll “cart” (he
nce the term) the results to the exhibit space.
