Geographic focus is primarily on China with experience on other countries including Russia, Japan, and the U.S. Past and current research projects include (but not limited to) rural youth and rural education, migrant children’s education, girls' education, education for all, education for sustainable development, privatization of higher education, the internalization of U.S. public schools, China-Africa educational collaboration, and peace education.
