The landmark college guide “Colleges That Change Lives” was recently updated and re-released this week, and Beloit College continues to be among the 40 higher education institutions recognized.  

Beloit College’s classroom experience was praised by The Princeton Review in its latest rankings out this week. The nationally known education services company ranked Beloit at No. 17 in this category.

This week Beloit College welcomed 313 first-year students – 33 of which are international – and another 54 transfer and exchange students who will begin classes on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, Beloit College will welcome 59 area high school students from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois as Porter Scholars. It is the largest class of its kind in the program’s approximately 50-year history.

A recent report commissioned by the Annapolis Group suggests that liberal arts colleges are the best in the higher education business at providing their graduates with a relevant and rewarding educational experience.

Assistant Professor of Economics Josh Hall was recently named a co-editor for economics for the Journal of Economics and Finance Education.

Beloit College will present a special exhibition of the lithographs of American artist George Bellows from Sept. 13 – Nov. 11 at the Wright Museum of Art. An opening reception is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a lecture at 7 p.m. by distinguished New York art dealer and Bellows expert Franklin Riehlman.

The Beloit Public Health Initiative (BPHI) has received a $1,000 grant from the Stateline Community Foundation to continue its work in the upcoming academic year. The initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and reducing sexually transmitted infections in Beloit and Rock County.

The Stateline Community Foundation recently awarded Beloit College’s Office of Summer Programs $1,200 to support the participation of three local high school students in the Summer Fields program running now through July 27. The funds come from the foundation’s Community Needs Grant Program.

Beloit College is known for drawing international students, but on Friday, July 13, it welcomed an unexpected overseas guest.

Former state legislator Dan Schooff will join Beloit College on July 9 as senior director of corporate relations, a new position.
