Dr. John Grotzinger, lead scientist for the Mars Curiosity expedition

Grotzinger will accept the Roy Chapman Andrews Distinguished Explorer Award at 4:30 p.m. in Eaton Chapel where he will also discuss his research and discoveries on the red planet.
Richard J. Bernstein, the Vera List Professor of Philosophy at The New School
Wednesday, Feb. 13
Bernstein, this year’s Selzer Visiting Philosopher, will give a lecture titled “The Pragmatic Turn,” at 7:30 p.m. in Moore Lounge, Pearsons Hall. Based on his 2010 book of the same name, it argues that many philosophical themes from the past 150 years are derived from classical American pragmatists.

Wednesday, Feb. 20
The 2013 Ginsberg Family Artist-in-Residence will give a lecture at 8 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium, Morse-Ingersoll Hall. Gatson is an artist whose sculptures, videos and paintings serve as politically and racially charged commentary on the American landscape. His exhibitions have been displayed at the Santa Monica Museum and Studio Museum in Harlem, N.Y. , among others.

Young is the author of seven books of poetry, including Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels, the winner of an American Book Award, and Jelly Roll, a finalist for the National Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the Paterson Poetry Prize. He will give the Lois and Willard Mackey Chair reading at 8 p.m. in Moore Lounge, Pearsons Hall.

For the 7th Annual Duffy Colloquium, Notzold and Horst will present a lecture titled “From Point A to Point B – Powered by Public Art,” at 8 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium, Morse-Ingersoll Hall. The event is sponsored by the Beloit College Duffy Community Partnerships, the department of sociology, and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

Beloit native Tony Scodwell, a trumpeter, soloist and headliner of stage and studio, will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Eaton Chapel called Tony Scodwell with Big Band. He is the 2013 Victor E. Ferrall, Jr. Endowed Artist-in-Residence.
