More than a thousand community members from all over the area enjoyed a night of learning and fun last Friday (Nov. 2) evening at the first-ever Family Discovery Night held at the Beloit College Center for the Sciences. Hosted by Beloit College and Kerry Ingredients & Flavours, the event was made possible in part by a $21,000 grant from Kerry.

Led by Beloit College faculty and Kerry scientists, kids and parents engaged in a variety of activities ranging from dissecting animal brains and watching marshmallow animals joust to exploring senses of smell and taste and operating and engaging with robots.

Guests also took 30-minute tours of the LEED Platinum Certified Beloit College Center for the Sciences, learned about a day in the life of a food scientist, and heard from Beloit admissions officers and students about what college life is all about.

The evening wrapped up with an open observatory on the rooftop of the science center, where participants caught glimpses of the moon, planets, stars and nebula.
