Engaging young girls in science is the goal of Girls and Women in Science, a Beloit College program. The 22nd annual conference takes place Friday, April 13 – Saturday, April 14 in the college’s Center for the Sciences building.
GWIS is a “minds-on, hands-on” free science workshop weekend for sixth-grade girls and their teachers and parents. This award-winning program encourages the exploration of science and mathematics by middle school girls through two days of experiments, activities and interaction with the Beloit College scientific community.
The entire weekend is designed to build confidence in the girls who attend by providing them with academic opportunities and encouragement that they may not otherwise receive. This year 37 girls from Beloit and the surrounding area will be participating with their parents and teachers.
