Chamlee-Wright named Provost at Washington College

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Washington College, a liberal arts institution in Chestertown, Md., today announced the hiring of Beloit College professor and associate dean Emily Chamlee-Wright as its new provost and dean.

In an email to campus this morning announcing the move, Beloit College Provost Ann Davies congratulated her colleague and associate dean while noting Chamlee-Wright’s long and distinguished teaching career, prolific scholarship and administrative work at Beloit.

“Emily’s wisdom, energy, generosity, loyalty, and sense of humor have greatly benefited our community over the 19 years she has been with us,” she wrote.

Of the move, she said, “It seems like an excellent fit; she’s met good people and is looking forward to immersing herself in a new culture and drawing out its strengths. She’ll do great things and surely carry our good wishes with her as she does.”

Chamlee-Wright will join Washington College this summer. She is the Elbert H. Neese Professor of Economics, associate dean, director of the Miller Upton Programs, and a past recipient of the  prestigious James R. Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award at Beloit. The author of four books, Chamlee-Wright is a former W.K. Kellogg National Leadership Fellow. (See a full bio on her website.)
