The role of the United States, Russia and China in influencing the post-communist transition of Central Asia is the topic of an upcoming public lecture at Beloit College. Titled “Has the Great Game Returned to Central Asia After 9/11?,”the talk takes place Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in room 150 of the Science Center.

Engaging young girls in science is the goal of Girls and Women in Science, a Beloit College program. The 22nd annual conference takes place Friday, April 13 – Saturday, April 14 in the college’s Center for the Sciences building.

Set in 19th-century Dublin, The Sugar Wife is the last play of the Beloit College theatre season. Performances take place from Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21 and from Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28 at 8 p.m. in the Neese Performing Arts Complex’s Kresge Theatre.

An author and actress from HBO’s critically acclaimed show “The Wire” is scheduled to make a visit to Beloit College on Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10. Part of the reason Felicia “Snoop” Pearson is coming to Beloit is because a group of faculty is teaching a course this semester titled “Untangling The Wire: The TV Serial as a Transformational Work.”

For the first-ever Beloit College Latin@ Educational Issues Conference, Dr. René Antrop-González, associate professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will present “What are the Success Factors of Urban High Achieving Latin@ Students?” The event takes place on Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in Moore Lounge, Pearsons Hall.

Marion Field Fass, biology professor and co-chair of Beloit’s health and society interdisciplinary program, has won the 2012 William E. Bennett Award for Extraordinary Contributions to Citizen Science. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities.

An alumnus with over 40 years of experience as an executive leader, entrepreneur and private investor will join the ranks of the college’s board of trustees when it convenes for its spring meeting in April. Bill Boyd’63 was recently elected to the board where he will serve a three-year term expiring in 2015.
