As a double bassist, Ms. Jursik has performed in such places as Carnegie Hall, Russia, Austria, Canada, Alaska, and around the U.S. She holds a masters degree in music performance from the University of Michigan. There she studied with distinguished performer and teacher Diana Gannett and Detroit Symphony member Stephen Molina. During her undergraduate degree in music at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN) she studied with renowned soloist David Murray. Ms. Jursik has also spent several summers studying with world-famous double bass virtuoso Gary Karr in Victoria, BC as well as a summer at the Aspen Music Festival and School where she studied with Bruce Bransby. She has taught young bassists for several years at the Golden Gate Bass Camp in California and worked with bassists such as Barry Green (author of The Inner Game of Music) and Mark Dresser.
Ms. Jursik is an active musician, regularly playing with orchestras and ensembles throughout the Midwest. She also maintains a private double bass studio, and enjoys teaching students of all ages. In addition, Ms. Jursik is an involved member of the International Society of Bassists and regularly takes part in their biennial conventions and has been a contributing reporter for its publication, Bass World.
