Emily Chamlee-Wright earned her Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University in 1993 and joined the Beloit College faculty that same year.  In addition to introductory economics, Professor Chamlee-Wright teaches courses in economic development, comparative economic systems, institutional economics, and Austrian economics. Her research investigates the confluence of cultural and economic processes.  She is the author of two books, The Cultural Foundations of Economic Development (Routledge 1997) and Culture and Enterprise: The Development, Representation, and Morality of Business, with Don Lavoie (Routledge 2000).  Professor Chamlee-Wright is currently working on a book titled The Learning Society, which examines how communities deploy social capital resources in the face of poverty and devastation.  She is one of three principal investigators working with The Mercatus Center's Katrina Project,  researching Gulf Coast recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Professor Chamlee-Wright is a former W.K. Kellogg National Leadership Fellow and a recipient of the Underkofler Award for Excellence in Teaching from Beloit College.
