[D. Anderson]B.M., Baylor University
M.M., Baylor University
M.M., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
With the 2011-12 academic year, David Anderson begins a two-year term as Conductor-in-Residence of the Beloit College Orchestra. In the fall, he will begin his second year as Music Director of the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, and his fifth as Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Director of the Chamber Music Institute of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra.
David has been integral in teaching the EYSO's unique and innovative approach that emphasizes not only excellence in performance, but also how the students think about music. Past seasons have included large-scale analogies to help spark students' curiosities about how music is related to the world around them.
David's tenure at the LGSO has already been marked by unprecedented growth in the size of the orchestra, audience, and budget. The orchestra collaborates with other area arts organizations in special projects that not only help raise awareness of the arts in the community, but also elevate their quality.
He has collaborated with soloists Midori, Rachel Barton Pine, Timothy Ehlen, Rick Rowley, and the Chicago cast of the Jersey Boys and is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the region.
A native of Clovis, New Mexico, David received his initial musical instruction at the piano. He has served as a member of the music faculty at Beloit College since 2006 as an instructor of piano, class piano, piano ensemble and accompanist for the Chamber Singers.
