We offer majors in Chinese Language and Culture, French, German, Japanese Language and Culture, Modern Languages, Russian, and Spanish. We also offer minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Courses in Hungarian and English as a Second Language are also available. Our programs assist students gain fluency in reading, writing, and speaking foreign languages and include the study of literature and cultures.
In addition to helping students think critically about other cultures, we encourage students to make connections between our discipline and others within the liberal arts tradition and in the world beyond the College, including professional aspirations. In order to immerse themselves in the target language and cultures they are studying, our majors are expected to study abroad through one of the many International programs offered through our Office of International Education and to live in one of the language houses.
