Tularosa White-on-Red CA. 1100-1200
This type is based on Tularosa Fillet Rim, but now the area of the bowl below the filets has been given a red slip, and is painted with bold white linear designs. There is no hatching, and the designs tend to be framed by a single line top and bottom. It is one of the most attractive of the Tularosa types. CharacteristicsPaste: Pinkish tan to dark brownTemper: Light sand Surface: Red-brown to gray-brown Forms: Mostly bowls Design: Exteriors smooth with fillet decoration just below the rim. White linear painted decoration in band below fillet decoration. Interiors and rim are often treated by smudging, which may be polished to iridescent.
