Mogollon Red-on-Brown - CA. 900-1050

Mogollon Red-on-Brown is one of the earliest of the Mogollon painted wares. Although never abundant, its designs are typical of early Mogollon painted wares, and may be derived from Hohokam sources. Designs are rectilinear and are usually composed of multiple parallel lines.

Paste: Light gray to reddish brown
Temper: Sand and white angular particles
Surface: Occasionally slipped
Forms: Bowls, jars, handled pitchers
Design: Rectilinear, wide lines and panels of color with serrated edges
