Madera Brown-on-Red

Madera Black-on-Red is found throughout the same range as Babicora Polychome, primarily to the south of Paquimé. Forms and painted decoration presage Ramos Polychrome, but the type seems to have no direct local ancestor.

Characteristics

Paste: Brown to tan; red to orange
Temper: Crushed sherd
Surface: No slip, smoothed and sometimes polished
Forms: Bowls, jars, effigies
Design: Wide band of interlocking elements, parallel diagonal lines separate surface into triangular panels.
