La Plata Black-on-White - CA. 550-725

La Plata Black-on-White is the earliest of the painted Cibola White Wares. Designs include small repeated elements and fringed lines, usually arranged in a radial fashion. these designs are reminiscent of those found on coiled baskets.

Characteristics

Paste: White to light gray
Temper: Coarse sand
Surface: Smoothed but unpolished
Forms: Deep, straight-sided bowls, rarely seed jars
Design: Small repeated elements and ticked or fringed lines arranged in radial fashion from bowl center to rim.
