Painted wood
Late Pharonic
Egypt, Africa
Gift of Daniel and Karen Scheckter

This wooden lid was probably an inner sarcophagus which contained the mummy of the deceased. Its preservation is due to the fact that it was contained with a larger stone sarcophagus.
