| The Beloit College Digital Student Collections contain a variety of works created by current Beloit students and alumni. Throughout the academic year, students are presented with a host of opportunities to create and share research projects, art work, papers, and other original products. For many students, these works serve as capstone projects or senior theses. For others, the projects are the result of independent studies or experiences abroad. These digital collections are a primary means of preserving and disseminating the expanding body of student-created work. Although each of the featured works has been preselected on the basis of academic merit, submission to the digital archives is a voluntary process. Watch for the addition of new collections as this repository grows into a hub of academic creativity and ingenuity for the Beloit College community. |

These photographs document a variety of disciplines spanning the lifetime of the college, with the earliest images dating to the 19 th century. | In commemoration of
the Chamberlin
Hall of Science (1968-2008), the library
has created a unique digital collection that combines 90 photographs
and slides from the college Archives with 32 digital images
captured by members of the Beloit College community. The collection
also contains a video stitched together from a series of webcam
photographs that were captured as the building was disassembled.
These images document the building’s history from construction
to deconstruction and represent a variety of interior and exterior
views. The sciences at Beloit are now housed in Chamberlin Hall’s successor,
the innovative Center for the Sciences. |

The T.C.
Chamberlin collection consists of 726 beautiful
black-and-white photos from the College Archives’ Chamberlin
Collection. These photos were taken by Rollin Chamberlin during
an exploratory trip through China in 1909-1910 as part of the
Oriental Educational Investigation Commission. T.C. Chamberlin
was a graduate of Beloit (class of 1866), a professor and president
of the University of Wisconsin, professor at University of Chicago
and Geologist of the United States. He took the trip with his
son, Rollin T. Chamberlin, who was a University of Chicago professor
and prominent geologist. There are many fascinating and striking
photos in this collection. |
| Herbert Gaytes, Class of 1893, was a gifted amateur photographer who meticulously documented aspects of life during the 1890’s. While a Beloit student, he began photographing College and local scenes and activities. He also visited and photographed the World’s Columbian Exposition as well as Chicago in the early and mid 1890’s. Gaytes life led him to California where he died on October 11, 1959. Several years after his death, a crate arrived at the college, containing his collection of glass plate and nitrate negatives, and photographic prints. Our online collection offers a few of his photos which capture student and College life, as well as the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. |

| Beloit - College, city and environs is a growing collection that we are proud to establish with fifteen video files created by College friend Rob Baller. This collection was originally created as PowerPoint slides of images from the Beloit College Archives and Beloit Historical Society. These images, once digitized, were “sewn” or overlaid on one another to create a fading effect. The results are videos of Beloit and College buildings, streets or locations as they looked in the past and present, weaved into short video presentations. |
