On Thursday, June 30 starting at 5:30 p.m., the data network will be unavailable due to an upgrade to the college's main network switch. The downtime will last a minimum of one hour and could last several hours, depending on the issues that the staff faces. The goal is to have the network available again by 8:00 a.m. on July 1.
During this downtime, there will be no access to the campus network or the Internet. This means that services such as E-mail, Datatel and WebAdvisor, network printing and Internet access, including the Beloit College website, will be unavailable. You will still be able to access any information stored on your individual computer and will be able to print to a printer connected directly to your computer. BELCAT, the Library circulation system, and all licensed electronic resources (JStor, WorldCat, Lexis/Nexis, etc.) will not be available until this work is complete. The Library will be open and materials in the local collection remain available for use and loan.
We appreciate your patience as staff perform this complex and important upgrade to the network. This upgrade is necessary in order to replace the main network switch that is over ten years old and out of warranty. The new equipment will help our network run more efficiently.
