The Moodle Policy has recently been updated to reflect the addition of Moodle Groups. Please review it so that you are familiar with the changes.

We have received notification that Charter will be performing some fiber maintenance in Madison next week that will affect the college's Internet service on February 8 & 9 between the hours of 1:00am and 5:00am.

Do you use the task bar (the area to the right of the 'start button' in windows 7) for shortcuts to programs that you run frequently? If you have any shortcuts there, then this might help you.

As of Monday, January 30, all Wilson databases are now available exclusively on the EBSCOhost platform. All links to Art Full Text and Art Index Retrospective on the library’s website have been changed to point to these databases’ new home at EBSCOhost. Additionally, Academic Search Premier links will now direct users to an interface that simultaneously searches both Academic Search Premier and OmniFile Full Text Mega (all other OmniFile Full Text Mega links have been removed).

The Information Technology (IT) department recently updated the Equipment Lending Policy and the equipment liability form that must be completed in order to check out equipment.

2011 saw big additions to the ARTstor image database. Altogether, over 200,000 new images were added. Many of these images belong to the 29 new collections that were added during the year.

The scheduled work to apply and test updates to the Library database is complete and access to BELCAT is restored. Please contact the Reference desk (x2544, libref@beloit.edu) for assistance with the Library catalog or any other collection resource or service. 

December was another busy month for the Jenzabar project team.  Much work was done to review data and complete new system configurations.  The team’s hard work has been in preparation for the first pass of our data from Datatel Colleague to Jenzabar EX.  The team is very excited to see what our data will look like in the system.  Click here for a full Jenzabar project update.

BELCAT, the Library catalog, will be unavailable on Thursday, Jan. 5th in order to complete routine catalog updates. Though BELCAT and our circulation system will not be available until work is complete, Library staff will be available to assist with discovery and borrowing of collection materials.  Please contact Joel Paulson (x2482), or Lisa Viezbicke (x2486) with any questions.

I am excited to announce some improvements to Moodle. The biggest and most apparent change is that there will be two separate Moodle instances. This change has come about due to more and more groups on campus (departments, committees, etc.) using Moodle to manage administrative responsibilities. I have received multiple requests to separate some of the these courses from the academic courses. This change will also better facilitate Jenzabar integration in the future.

Do you have library items that are due before you’ll return to Beloit?
All materials borrowed from our library, the Beloit Public Library,
UW-Madison Libraries, and through interlibrary loan can be returned to
the Beloit College Library Circulation Desk before you leave campus
for winter break.

Data, data, and more data was the theme for the JET Project team in November. The team was tasked with reviewing over 4000 data fields in the data mapping document provided by Jenzabar. This document spells out where all the data currently in Datatel Colleague will “live” in Jenzabar EX.  In January, the team will begin to test EX with actual data.  Click here for a full project update.
