Multicolored Pennies

Turn your copper pennies gold and silver! Learn how pennies interact with fire and metal to change their color property. The world is ever-changing just like your new pennies.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty dumpty fell off a wall and cracked! Do you think you can prevent that?  We want you to defy physics and design a device that will hold an egg and prevent it from cracking when you drop it from the fourth  floor of the science center!! You will be given thirty minutes, a box and a variety of items to create the ultimate shock absorber. With any luck your egg won’t splat into a thousand pieces from the fourth floor of the building, but we shall see!!!!

Playing with Food            

Fruits and vegetables are delicious and nutritious, but what else can they do? Potatoes, apples, and oranges can be used to create a battery that will run a small LED device.  The properties of these foods and batteries will be explored.  Playing with food has never been better!

Incredible Edible Earth

Do you like maps, mountains, outdoors, and sugar?  We stand on the ground every day, but do you know what is actually below your feet?  Learn about identifying rocks and minerals that you can find on the ground and in the core of the Earth.  Enjoy creating and eating a  multi-layer dessert that represents structures principles that define geology.

Virtual Friends with Alice

Come play with Alice.  She will help you add people, objects, and animals to your virtual world.  She will let you control them with your mouse: making them move, spin, disappear, say things, and a lot more.  So, who/what is Alice?  It is a 3D virtual world that lets you easily create a computer program to make it seem more like play than programming.  Best of all, it is free so you can continue to build your world after we have helped you get started!

The Art of Earrings

Create colorful titanium patterned earring discs by electrochemical oxidation. Metals like niobium and titanium can present an array of rainbow colors when different voltages are applied to them. Different thickness of oxides will  also contribute to the exciting colors that will appear on your new earrings.
