Karris Track & Field Dedication
A cool, September evening was the setting for the Karris Track & Field dedication at Strong Stadium during the Buccaneers home opener against Carroll University. The men and women, along with their families, who generously donated the financial contributions necessary to complete this project enjoyed a special reception prior to kickoff and were recognized at halftime.
Among them was a knowledgeable, young football fan whose grandfather, Nick Karris, was a lead donor for this project. While enjoying the reception, the young fan and the entire Karris family served as a telling reminder of the impact this project will have connecting past and future generations. The new track will remind students of past glory through the long awaited next running of the Beloit Relays. The Buccaneer football team has already made use of a new artificial turf surface. Looking to the future, students will have an opportunity to join only the second NCAA Division III lacrosse program in the Associated Colleges of the Midwest.
This project also served as an excellent reminder that not all of the life-changing experiences happen in a classroom; a point demonstrated by the college’s dedication to the Liberal Arts in Practice. Athletics is just one of the many ways in which students gain meaningful experiences to last a lifetime. In the coming months and years, supporters should expect other projects to follow a similar motivation as the college continues to provide students the best possible experience. Until then, we can celebrate how the donors who supported this project have placed Beloit College on a leading edge yet again; arguably the best place from which to peer into the future.
